The Buttery is a not-for-profit, charitable organisation located near Bangalow in Northern NSW, Australia. The Buttery specialises in the treatment of alcohol and other drug misuse and problem gambling. It is guided by the philosophy – Addiction is not a consequence of choice: recovery is. As well as a residential addiction rehab, it also operates community outreach programs in the NSW Northern Rivers Region.
The Buttery’s long-term residential rehab program operates as a Therapeutic Community where the community of residents itself is the main vehicle for promoting personal change through self-help and mutual support. The Buttery’s four community outreach services cover a wide area in northern NSW. These are: INTRA for adults and teenagers with drug and alcohol abuse problems; b.well an outreach service for teenagers and adults with mental illness and substance abuse issues and The Northern Rivers Gambling Counselling Service. The Buttery’s Family Program is a free counselling service funded wholly by philanthropic support for the family members of Buttery residents and those in contact with the Buttery’s INTRA service.
