Starting July 2023, mandatory short notice assessments have replaced the previously announced assessments for all health service organisations undergoing evaluation against the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care (NSQHS) Standards.
This change is aimed at improving the reliability of the accreditation processes, reflecting day-to-day practices, identifying possible gaps and helping organisations to improve safety and quality systems.
What does this mean for your health service organisation?
Previously, organisations were granted substantial preparation time, often up to six months, to prepare for audits. However, the landscape has shifted. Now, they must fully comply with the requirements of the NSQHS Standards for clinical and corporate service provision and have processes in place to demonstrate compliance at any time.
It is important to highlight that the short notice assessment requirement is also in place for the Aged Care Quality Standards and looks like setting the trend for other assessment processes in the future.
